How to Care for LVT

Caring for LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) flooring is fairly straightforward and low-maintenance, but following the right steps will help it stay beautiful and last longer.

Here’s a simple care guide:

Initial Cleaning After a New Installation

  • Sweep ALL sheetrock dust, debris, etc. prior to attempting to clean your flooring with any damp solution. If you fail to do this, you could create a very serious mess. We recommend sweeping and vacuuming well.
  • If you new flooring is part of a new construction project, it is wise to cover the flooring with RamBoard or Anatolia's Guardia product to keep your new floors protected during the construction process.

Sweep or Vacuum Daily

  • Use a soft broom or a vacuum without a beater bar.
  • This prevents dirt and grit from scratching the surface.

Damp Mop Weekly

  • Avoid overly wet mops—LVT is water-resistant, but excess water can seep into seams or edges over time.
  • Use a microfiber mop with warm water or a PH-neutral vinyl floor cleaner.

Cleaning Tips

  • Spills: Wipe up spills as soon as possible to prevent staining.
  • Stains: Use a vinyl-safe cleaner for stubborn marks. Avoid abrasive scrubbers.
  • AVOID:
    • Harsh chemicals (bleach, ammonia, or acetone)
    • Wax or polish (not needed for LVT and can cause build-up)
    • Steam mops (can damage the adhesive or wear layer)

Preventative Care

  • Furniture Pads: Add felt pads to furniture legs to avoid scratching.
  • Doormats: Place mats at entrances to catch grit and moisture.
  • Heavy Furniture: Avoid dragging; lift instead to move. Always use protective mats under rolling chairs.
  • Sunlight: Use blinds or curtains to prevent fading from direct sun exposure.
  • Shoes Off Policy: Avoid walking with high heels or cleats on LVT to reduce the risk of dents or scratches.

As always, if you can identify the manufacturer and product style of your particular flooring, refer to that manufacturer's cleaning instructions before trusting anyone else's guidelines. NEVER fall for a TikTok cleaning trend and risk ruining your investment of floors in your home. Only follow flooring manufacturers guidelines for care.
